Thierry Delaporte has stepped down as the chief executive officer and managing director of Wipro, a global leader in technology services and consulting, to “pursue passions outside the workplace.”

The company has announced the appointment of Srini Pallia, a longstanding member of the Wipro with over three decades of experience, as its new CEO and managing director, effective immediately.

“I’d like to express my gratitude to Thierry for his leadership at Wipro. The changes he implemented have better positioned us for the future,  said Rishad Premji, Chairman of Wipro. “We have optimised our structure, enhanced our leadership, prioritised partnerships, and improved our overall efficiency. This provides a strong foundation for Srini to effectively build upon.”

“Thierry will continue until the end of May, working closely with Srini and me to ensure a smooth transition,” added Premji.

Having been with Wipro since 1992, Srini has held several key leadership positions, including President of Wipro’s Consumer Business Unit and Global Head of Business Application Services.

His tenure saw the crafting and execution of growth strategies that considerably bolstered market share across diverse industry sectors, according to a company statement.

Premji expressed confidence in Pallia’s leadership, stating, “Srini is an ideal leader to lead Wipro at this pivotal moment for our company and industry.”

Premji assured a smooth transition, noting that Delaporte would continue to collaborate with Pallia and himself until the end of May to ensure a seamless handover.

“I am thankful to Rishad and the Board for entrusting me with the leadership of Wipro during a period of substantial transformation,” Thierry Delaporte said.

“It has been a privilege to lead Wipro and witness its transformation into a future-ready organisation. I am confident that under Srini’s leadership, Wipro will continue to thrive and reach new pinnacles of success,” Delaporte stated.

“Wipro is one of those rare companies that combines profit with purpose. I am truly honoured to have been chosen to lead this iconic institution. I am excited to build on the strong foundation established by Thierry and lead Wipro on its next growth trajectory, Srini said.”

Srini, holding degrees from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and executive certifications from Harvard Business School and the McGill Executive Institute, will be based in New Jersey, reporting directly to Chairman Rishad Premji.
