IBM has named Christina Shim as its new Chief Sustainability Officer, effective July 1. Shim succeeds Wayne Balta, who is retiring after four decades with the company, most recently leading its environmental sustainability efforts.
Shim is a seasoned IBM veteran with nearly 20 years of experience. She most recently led the company’s sustainability software business, where she played a key role in developing and delivering innovative solutions to help clients address environmental challenges.
In her new role, Shim will be responsible for overseeing IBM’s global sustainability strategy and programmes. She will leverage the company’s expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and hybrid cloud technologies to tackle climate change and advance environmental sustainability efforts.
“I am honored to take on this important role and lead IBM’s efforts to create a more sustainable future,” said Shim in a statement. “Sustainability is a critical issue for our planet and our clients, and I am confident that IBM’s technology and expertise can make a real difference.”
In recent years, IBM has set ambitious sustainability goals, including achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
