HR pros share their New Year’s resolutions for 2025

New Year’s resolutions are often forgotten about until the last minute, making them hastily chosen and less than thoughtful.

Lucky for you, some of your HR pros peers have already made some resolutions for the year ahead. We’ve gathered them below to serve as inspiration for your own goal planning.

“My professional New Year’s Resolution is to keep mental health front and center for myself and our team. Mental health and the well-being of employees in the workplace has never been more important, and in today’s day and age, all companies should be investing in and offering comprehensive mental health programs and initiatives that provide the professional and personal support that all employees need.”—Carina Cortez, CPO, Cornerstone

“I’d love to dedicate more time to the HR community…It’s not always easy to make the time to host that lunch, go across town for happy hour, or reach out to the person who shared an insightful LinkedIn post for a virtual coffee. But, when I do make that a priority, I find that connecting with peers…not only enhances my work outcomes, but helps me stay engaged and energized about my work.”—Amber Zeise, head of people, Cocoon

“People are feeling a lack of community, and what could it look like if we are able to give people an inspired community in the workplace? Something that is giving them the ability to connect and build relationships and skills that exist beyond the workplace.”—Angel Franklin, COO, Hinge

“My 2025 News Year’s resolution is to champion the development of soft skills within our workforce, recognizing the growing importance of skills like creative thinking, empathy, communication, and collaboration…As AI takes on more of the everyday workload, it will open up incredible opportunities for junior employees to step up and take on more responsibility, growing in their roles much faster.”—Aashna Kircher, group general manager of CHRO products, Workday

Quick-to-read HR news & insights

From recruiting and retention to company culture and the latest in HR tech, HR Brew delivers up-to-date industry news and tips to help HR pros stay nimble in today’s fast-changing business environment.

“Less busy work. I want to cut the amount of time spent on repetitive, mundane tasks and have more time for big picture planning to empower our 72,000 employees to succeed. Luckily, there’s an agent for that. With agentic AI, humans will work in partnership with agents to not only increase productivity and drive greater impact, but fundamentally transform how we all approach our day-to-day roles—and have better balance in our lives.”—Nathalie Scardino, president and CPO, Salesforce

“A priority for me is determining how I can best connect with and support our people—both within our team and in other areas of our company. Holding one-to-ones on a regular cadence gives me an opportunity to understand what’s going well and what challenges team members face.”—Dana Rogers, VP of people and great work, O.C. Tanner

“My HR New Year’s resolution is to continue leveraging AI to transform our employee experience, from making it easier for colleagues to make informed selections during the open enrollment process to simplifying how the HR team crafts policies or job descriptions. For example, a GenAI-powered agent we’re piloting in 2024 has the potential to enhance how we design, select, and utilize benefits, as the interactions can be more personalized with real-time answers for our employees and customers. This not only improves the employee experience, but also frees up HR teams to focus on more strategic initiatives.”—Melanie Tinto, CPO, WEX

“My HR resolution this year is to focus on making skill-building less complicated and more accessible for everyone. Helping teams identify what they’re great at, where they can grow, and how to connect those dots without overcomplicating the process is one priority going into 2025.”—Jamie Aitken, VP of HR transformation, Betterworks
