Editor’s Note: Genesis10 is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. As part of our year-long celebration, we are interviewing present and former Genesis10 Consultants about their experiences.

Machelle Davis first joined Genesis10 in March 2023 as a business analyst consultant at a pharmacy benefits manager. She converted to a full-time employee of the client about a year later. In this interview, Machelle describes the “seamless” experience of working for Genesis10 and her perspective on how the health care industry has changed over the course of her career.

How did you first hear about Genesis10?

A recruiter named Taylor Jensen reached out to me on LinkedIn and said, ‘Hey, Machelle, I saw on your LinkedIn that you’re open and available for a new opportunity. I have this opportunity that I think you would be a perfect fit for. Would you be interested?’ I read the job description, and I am a sucker for jobs in health care and jobs that involve prior authorizations, in particular. Boy, did Taylor hit the nail on the head. It was a perfect fit! The whole interview process was so smooth. I didn’t have any hiccups.

What was the career path that brought you to where you are today?

About 20 years ago, I went to work for a health insurance company. Originally, I was in the eligibility section and then they moved me over to the claims department, and eventually my job focused on prior authorization claims. I then went to work for a pharmacy, where I helped set up a billing department. Eventually, I went on to work for the Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange as a business analyst.

What are the biggest changes you’ve seen in the health care industry during your career?

I think I’ve witnessed a lot of changes. Health care has evolved and changed quite a bit. Number one, everything’s electronic now. We were working on an electronic system even 20 years ago, but it wasn’t as unique as what we have now. Number two, the regulations have changed.

What do you like most about your job?

I love the culture and the environment. I also love how there’s a challenge one minute, and then the next minute, your brain gets a break. In a business analyst role, that’s what we call feast or famine. I also enjoy the investigation part of my job. I should have been a private eye! I really should have, because as an analyst, you really take a deep dive into what’s needed.
