HR’s 2025 Compliance Survival Guide, Part 4

New laws. New court rulings. New state-by-state leave and pay transparency rules. 2025 is not the year to “set it and forget it” with your policies.

That’s why we built a free HR Compliance Checklist designed specifically for the challenges employers are facing right now. It covers what to review, update, and flag for leadership before small mistakes become big problems.

What’s Inside the 2025 HR Compliance Checklist?

I-9s & Personnel Files

  • Are your I-9s current and stored correctly (paper or electronic)?
  • Have remote/hybrid hiring practices been updated post-COVID?

Wage & Hour Compliance

  • Are you compliant with both FLSA and state-level OT rules?
  • Have you reviewed how tips, bonuses, and service charges are categorized?

Job Descriptions & Classifications

  • Are your exempt vs. non-exempt classifications defensible?
  • Do job descriptions reflect actual duties, not just templates?

Leave Policies

  • Are you up to date on state-specific PFML, sick leave, and school leave?
  • Do your policies coordinate the federal FMLA with new state programs?

Non-Competes, Severance, & Handbooks

  • Are your non-competes compliant with evolving state bans?
  • Is your handbook updated for AI, DEI, and data privacy considerations?

Manager Readiness

  • Have managers been trained on retaliation, accommodation, and leave?
  • Do they know how to respond to requests and document them properly?

Why This Checklist Matters

Compliance isn’t just a legal risk—it’s a culture risk. Employees expect clarity, fairness, and transparency. Getting this wrong damages trust and retention.

By using MP’s checklist, HR leaders can:

  • Prevent costly missteps
  • Align leadership on compliance priorities
  • Get proactive instead of reactive

Get the Checklist. Lead with Confidence.
