I moved into a business role and loved it. I was responsible for running the office of the CIO and transforming the technology and engineering organisation. I also held the role of deputy CHRO which enabled me to continue to shape the people strategy.

Worldpay provided me with multiple learning and growth opportunities as we together took the company from private to IPO and merger with another payment giant. In this role I took responsibility for talent acquisition, talent development, L&D and internal communications, before moving back into a HR partner role.

Having only worked as a director in a start-up before, Burger King gave me the opportunity to work in a large-scale, global corporate. I partnered with centres of excellence; tailored solutions to local markets; managed stakeholders and mastered a new regulatory and compliance environment.

This was my first real leadership role sitting on an executive team, leading the HR agenda and taking responsibility for the full value chain. It was a steep learning curve on the HR side but also my first exposure to digital, technology and agile transformation.

Top three career tips
1. Take a role as an HR leader for a private equity portfolio company. You’ll learn so much.
2. Take care of people and not just business Combining the two can make you unbeatable.
3. Actively seek a role outside of HR to gain more breadth, even if it’s just for a few years. You won’t regret it.
